Creativity in the Time of Covid.

We were preparing to launch BIFKiDS After School Club in London early in 2020. And then Covid hit. Schools closed. Lockdown. And homeschooling. After talks with other parents, we decided to take our club online. Onto Zoom.

It was like real-time innovation from ‘after-school’ to helping parents with ‘home-school’. We took our creative problem-solving process and made it virtual. It worked a charm. Each kid at home creating on their own worksheet. Then holding up to present works-in-progress to the other kids. Alone. But collaboratively connected.

We began prototyping our SDG ‘global problem solving’ curriculum. It kept working a charm. We introduced themes that spoke to what the kids were experiencing - thing like:

  • Showing love for Covid carers,
  • How to help those isolating from others,
  • Especially the oldies in our hoods.

It was really moving to see the kinds of ideas the kids came up with. So much so that we decided to produce a BIFKiDS lockdown story, taking the essence of their ideas, and insert our local elder Barry.

Ideas Boy Remy presents his idea to the real Barry.

After the BIFKiDS ‘looking after oldies’ session, Remy prototyped his idea. He then wanted to talk Barry through it. The idea was so good we made it into a story which is available below.

Our BIFKiDS 'ageing lockdown' story came together beautifully. Click on the link to get a PDF copy of the book - we think you and your tamariki will love it.
